Two good winter routes are on the east side of the peak. The trail is labeled on maps and signed as Ben Lomond trail. He was making all kinds of noise. Due to COVID the lessons are limited to 2-5 people and they must be from the same family group. On a clear day, it is perfectly visible from the higher ground areas of Glasgow. By the time we retuned at 9:45 a. m., the lot was full and cars were parking in nearby pull offs along the road. Various sections of the trail run from Ogden down to Payson. While you have an unobstructed view of the falls just steps away from the parking lot, it's worth the short hike to get a different perspective. Directions to Deuel Creek South Fork Trailhead: - From the 1-15, take exit 319 and head east toward the mountains. Each has a pavilion and restroom (flush toilets). Each site is equipped with a picnic table and campfire ring. In another mile, turn left at the entrance to North Fork Park and look for the signed Ben Lomond Trailhead near the horse corral at the far end of the park. Walk under a 730ft bridge spanning +800ft on the N. Fork American River.

North Fork Park Waterfall Trailhead Road
At 7 a. m. on a Saturday in August, we were the first vehicle in the parking lot. The second route goes up Rodeo Ridge which ascends from North Fork Park to the basin below Ben Lomond. The North Fork Falls waterfall and swimming hole was the only one listed near us and while there wasn't much information provided, he did some further research, figured out the details, and planned our afternoon hike and picnic dinner. In the heat of summer, the cool river water will be a great remedy. The trail is nice and wide, rocky, and in great shape. Most people use this trail from summer to late fall. For a longer ride people will ride Northfork to Metolious-Windigo, stay left and ride up to the Flagline trail, descend flagline and Southfork and up on the Tumalo Creek trail for a 20 mile, 3000 ft elevation ride. The second most used route starts from Willard Basin to the north. Mt Ogden Peak has an elevation of 9, 501 feet. There will be signs that point up this road to "North Fork" and "Avon". She took a few deep breaths and committed to it with me swimming next to her.

For those of you that follow me on Instagram (), you know that today is "Where to Hike Wednesday". Not only do they groom the trails for snowshoeing, cross country skiing, and snow biking, but they also provide some pretty amazing amenities for families that want to get outside in the winter. Stay on this wide trail that follows the North Fork waters. It was a bit of a scramble, but not too much for a healthy hiker. So for this trip, we skipped it, just enjoying the view of the upper falls from the lower pool and the trail. Restrooms and drinking water are provided. Plus if you want to take a break from the groomed trails, you are fine to venture off into the deeper snow. We loved this short enjoyable hike with little elevation gain. The trail switchbacks for most of the ascent, flattening out for about a mile before the final series of zig-zags up to the summit. Is it considered the local swimming hole, and a nice relaxing place to beat the heat. The trail goes right next to the stream a few times which is great for the dogs to cool off. It climbs all the way to the falls, and there are a few scrambles, but our 7 year-old did just fine. From that saddle it is just a short climb to the summit. It was an overall easy trail and the waterfall was flowing like crazy! The shortest route to the summit is from the Snowbasin side, following the jeep access road.

North Fork River Trail
This trailhead is sometimes lacking identification signs. Truly the best MTB rides Bend has to offer. During heavy runoff in late spring and early summer the waterfall is bursting from the gorge creating thick mist that rises all around it. You have to go through Bend to reach it. For a lot of families, getting out in the winter is difficult. It is home to camping, Ogden Nordic (Nordic skiing & Snowshoeing), Sweaty Yeti fat bike race, Ropes Course, hiking & biking trails, Fat bike & mountain bike course, equestrian trails, educational outreach programs and the honor of holding an International Dark Sky designation.
The reward is another perspective of the waterfall, including a viewpoint from the top looking down the cascade. We spent around a half hour just swinging and laughing. In later summer the blues and greens of the deep pool below can be observed. These trails are popular with hikers and equestrian riders. Ben Lomond sometimes has record amounts of snow because of its location and the lake effect from the Great Salt Lake. Less than 5 minutes from the car is a sandstone gorge below a small dam that provides a great place to hang out a short distance from the car. Turn left here onto Highway 162 and drive north for about 3 miles, turning left on 4100 North. Moose are commonly seen along the lower trail.
So that you don't make the same mistake we did, below is an outline of the 2020-2021 Daily Trail Pass Rates. In late spring and early summer the waterfall is a frothy white with thick mist rising all around it. Be careful to take the correct trail on the way back from the waterfall. Wear tennis shoes or hiking boots. Continue down now towards the sound of the cascading falls. There are stream crossing and potentially muddy trails on the north end of the ride. Farther behind are the Wellsville Mountains and Bear River Range. Turn left to begin climbing up the singletrack (alternatively riders could continue up the road to reach the Cutler Flat Trail to switch things up). You'll climb another 500 feet over the next 2. This trail is uphill only for bikes. To the left of the trail is a large rock. She kept trying to it. Yes, we could have cliff jumped back down to the lower pool, but it was already getting dark, we couldn't see into the water, and it just didn't feel safe. Looking north you will see Willard Peak with its large and rocky summit knob.
My 6 year old got tired here and there but for the most part, pretty east for kids. You really have to see the colors of the lakes with your own eyes to believe the hype. Parking lot on Saturday in August, 9:45am. Camp at 2nd or 3rd Lake – you'll get the best views of Temple Crag. It's a small trailhead, but isn't used much, so you shouldn't have any problems finding a spot. Be prepared and carry a map and have good navigational skills. N38° 33' 52" W109° 30' 13".
